all's well that ends well. Car did not in fact have a boost leak (after I fixed it) but a fuel pump module was kaput, and that's why it threw the check engine light. got it replaced, and the car's back on it's feet again!

Ah the things you find on a used car, even a newish one. Mine has its various quirks and jobs that need doing. Not to mention it has to be prepared before it will start.
